A few nights ago I finally got the chance to open up my Hudson Four Grain Bourbon and it didn’t disappoint my expectations in the slightest. My first glass accompanied my steak and scalloped potatoes dinner perfectly and glass number 2 fit right in while sitting outside at night listening to the Braves play.

The Stats:

ABV: 46%;  92 proof
Awards: Silver Medal – Small Batch Class – 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition

Artisan Whiskey of the Year, 2011 – The Whiskey Guild

The Pour:

It pours a medium amber color…really nice looking.

(Note: It looks much lighter in the picture above because of the table that the glass is sitting on.)

The Smell:

The smell shines with hints of sweet corn, some floral notes, a little vanilla and light hints of char from the barrel.

The Taste:

Each of the four grains work really well with one another and play their own big part in the array of flavor. Smooth and sweet corn upfront give way to  some fairly strong spice that leaves a nice burn. The wheat and malted barley add some work together  and serve as a strong background to round out the flavor. Throw in a couple ice cubes to really set the flavors free.

The Mouthfeel:

Medium bodied. Very smooth and drinkable with a little burn.

The Verdict:

I really enjoyed this bourbon. A lot. It has been finishing my nights off for the last few days but, I think that with a couple more years in the barrel this whiskey would really shine once all the grains sit and really meld with each other. With this being my first experience with Hudson Whiskey I can say that I am really excited to try out everything else that comes out from their neck of the woods.

Stay Thirsty. Stay Foolish.

Pretty Damn Good
